$400 Guaranteed NL Holdem Tournament
$3.30 buy-in, R/A – Add-on for 2000 chips

I added on at start of this game to give myself some fold chips and glad I did as these players that were at my starting table were horrible.  The amount of rebuys they made so early was to be expected because of the hands they were raising then calling all-ins with.

Not much really happened from my side of the felt as I folded some monster hands because I didn’t want to be a constant rebuy.  Whats the point in that?  You have to deduct that money from your winnings to calculate your profit… if any depending on how many times you did rebuy.

I folded AKo pre flop a number of times but there was the AQc that would have spoiled two players game if I had played it.  I would have won with high cards but its the gathering of chips that we are looking for.

At first break I was down in 15th place and decided not to add-on, I figured I would cut my loses with  what I had already invested.  Then use my stack to put pressure on those that had added on at break as they would be less inclined to risk and gamble.

Things started to look better for me on the big blind with T8o, after checking the blind and hitting 8 on the flop for top pair I led out and was called.  I hit my Ten on the turn and with it producing two spades and straight draw I pushed.  I got called by 76s on a Ts4s8c3d board and I sweat the river and get up to $35,500 chips. oH Hello chip leader.

I then folded into the money scoring the odd pot with my image but when we got down to 3 handed I was the short stack by a good margin.  So I shoved with K9o and called vs AKo and river’d a flush to get back in to the game.  Hmmm now that I think about this hand I could have easily been knocked out in 3rd here.

With AJo in the small blind I limped in and called a raise pre flop.  The flop was A97 two diamonds which I check min raised that was called.  The king of hearts came out on the turn and now it was time to push the chips in acting as if I did hit the king.  He calls and I out kick his weak ace.

Heads Up didn’t last to long after 3rd went to the rail.  Any 1 big card and I was pushing to get this game over with and when my K2h flushed on the river vs his high card ace I had a commanding chip lead but I can’t beat luck.

I kept losing every race from that point on, while he was getting stacked with the deck or hitting his cards when it counted he takes back the chip lead.  With QTd  he calls with T9o which makes the me heavy favorite going to the ah &^#! he flops two pair then rivers a full house.  Game Over.

Second wasn’t to bad considering I had only invested 2 buyins compared to some of these other players who really do need poker lessons and some bankroll management.  It does not make sense to rebuy 5-6 times and addon too if your not going to cash.  So don’t do it and just finish in the money like a normal game.

Aren’t you glad you didn’t add on at break? You didn’t need to :)

I’m noticing that 8T is coming out to play almost as much as 72 and scored you a really nice pot in this game.
When you scored the 2nd rivered flush i didnt notice the flush and thought ooohh noo, then all the chips moved to you and I had to relook at the hand, :D nice

Congrats on the 2nd place finish, very nice work!

Very nice play AJ … always much sweeter finish when ya don’t have to rebuy (past the sitting) or add-on.

As for the 8-10 .. hearing more & more “it’s my favorite hand!”

wtg on the second place..I too have noticed the re- buy/add on junkies and I am trying to stay away from those people and situations. I agree with doing it when the game starts and then playing what I would normally would play until break..I am trying to play just deepstack and freezeouts..
LOL @ 27 sooted.. I just couldn’t get that lucky.. why isnt folding good??lol

    very seldom I addon
by the time it gets to break I know how the players are playing and most I have played with before so notes go a long way, and saves on some money.

ya I noticed I been playing T8 (mostly sooted) a little more often
not sure if its cause of position….

twinsie your still the queen of the $400 GTD
