New poker players often make the same mistakes that generally cost them money in the long run. This is a poker article that lists a few of the losing player misunderstandings of what it takes to win at poker. New players should read this lesson to get off to a good start with your poker experience.
Playing the Wrong Tables
To be honest, I can’t understand how new/beginner players can make this crucial mistake. Are they greedy? Are they trying to make a fast buck? Sticking to a table (blinds) that you can afford should be the first thing you look for when looking at the tables. Stick to your limits till you have enough of a bankroll to move up.
To Many Hands
The difference between a beginner and advanced player is hole card selection. Far to often the beginner is playing pretty much anything, chasing down a dream. Wake up!! Choose your cards more selectively pre flop, those blinds you limp into, or raise with Ax or think you got the nutz with pocket 5’s.
All-IN Pre Flop
Are you mad? Insane , or just donating?
The poker mathematical odds pre flop are over rated on the lower limits. Seeing the flop isn’t. Try it, even try to limping in every now and then with those ‘monster’ hands, you would be very surprised how much money you actually save by seeing the flop.
The Odds
Even the simplest of odds may elude you. Pot odds / Draw odds / Implied odds
All those and more, should be second nature. You shouldn’t need a calculator, or look up on chart. Give it some time, study them little more, but learn them so they just are and not what is…. ?
Monkey See, Monkey Do
Personally I love hitting the online tables after a Poker TV show has just aired. All these Monkey’s think that they can copy the ‘Great Dane’ and then bust out early and don’t understand the logic of ‘his’ actions. Don’t do what other people do, they do it for a reason that is about poker. If you want to be an actor/tress then take up drama class.
Emotional
Suck outs and bad beats happen, that’s poker. If you let your emotions get the better of you, the players at the table are the least of your problems, cause you fighting to hard against your own self.
