Fixing For Some Limited Table

Posted by Assistanc3 On November - 1 - 2008

Was up kinda late tonight, had some things on my mind, so I hit the cash tables.  Normally I prefer the fixed limit, tonight I played some Pot Limit, to go along with the PL Omaha tournaments I had played….. Maybe “played” isn’t the best word for it, possibly destroyed would be.

So I sit down, get a feel for the table, engage in some friendly chat and start working out the players.  Not to hard to do, just gotta know what to look for.  I did have some notes on a few players from previous tournaments.  Knowing they will call down with 2nd pair and Ace high is key, notes came in handy about middle of the session on a decent size pot.

I played 167 hands.  Mostly check call, trap.  Seen a lot of flops, but that is normal, what isn’t is the number being around 50%.  I have a few hands I am gonna post in the forum, basically to show the difference of hand selection and position.  Remember this is a limit game, so things do change.

The reason I like any limit game is not because of the all in, go broke thought.  I can get away from big hands if needed in the No-Limit games.  The reason is, the other players make more consistent mistakes, and when you can take advantage of that, that’s when your doubling , tripling your initial buyin.

I wonder why more players are not learning the limit games, I could only assume its because its boring, but so is accounting, so is many other jobs.  Limit Holdem can be a joy to play when your on your game.  Y know like calling off a 1/4 pot bet while holding a small pocket pair but you just know the other guy is bluffing the river.

And that there is the common mistake, if your bluffing on the river, you probably made a bad bet somewhere else.  Limit is hit or miss, draw to cheap flushes and straights.  Very seldom you want to give a free card, but would always like to get one.

I hope you enjoyed the change of pace playing the pot limit and that it helped to clear your mind for an hour or 2.
Seeing 50% of the flops seems a lil high for you, sounds like maybe you were getting some good cards.

I’ll keep an eye out for the post with some hand histories, can always use the opportunity to learn something ;)

Don’t think I was really getting that great of cards, more or less just out playing players that don’t understand a positional bet.
