FTP Fantasy Pot Limit Holdem

erik-sidelMy third of four tournaments I qualified for on Full Tilt Poker to play in a $1000 Freeroll after making the top 2000 in points.  Erik Seidel was my only cashing player who him alone got me enough points to gain entry, which is really surprising that more contestants didn’t have him in their pool.

The Game: Pot Limit Holdem
Poker Replay: Letting Them Draw on You

Unlike fixed limit (a game that feels like it never ends) Pot Limit can get big pots really fast and losing one of them can really set you in the hole.  Sticking with playing position in the early goings I accumulated chips waiting out to score the big pot.

The big pot came just before break to a bad timing on a bluff.  I wont knock the kid for trying as I only called him off with a pair of 4’s but I was thinking the same thing, “I need a big pot before break.”  So I got all his chips in the middle on a Q4Q board while I was holding A4.

At first break I was sitting in 113rd of 693
Feeling good and have the players at my table all well noted on the plays they like to do and not do.  Floating my position till second break where we 3 from the money allowed me to enjoy my five minutes off and grab a coffee.

At 3rd break 24th of 75

Three hours in I was only looking for top 10 and decided it was time to make a run and start stacking chips.  The blinds are well high enough and players stacks are deep so re-raises often seen much action and the reward for slow playing on Pot Limit?
Poker Video Replay
I put together a couple hands in a replay on letting the draw out, maybe they didn’t have the “draw cards” to go with the flop.  The risk of letting someone catch a free card is always right if the reward and opportunities are there.

At 4th break 4th of 28
At 5th break 5th of 10
Finished in 9th of 891 after making the run for first with a bad re-bluff I got hit for 40% of my chips and left stranded but battled back to hold off 2 short stacks to take ninth place in the FullTilt Poker Fantasy Event 45 PLHE.

You played a really great game.
You showed me how letting them draw to you is really advantageous,
you were able to extract a lot of chips that way.

The hand 99vs77, when the cards first turned I thought he had you with a straight, silly me, didn’t notice the pair of jacks on the board giving you a full house ;)

5 hours was a very long game, you should be very pleased with how you played, 9th out of 891 is awesome!
